Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy 1
Inductively-Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) is probably the most popular technique for determination of all metals and many non-metallic elements It can determine most elements in low to medium µg/l concentrations. This topic (ICP-OES) is divided into two courses of which this is the first. In part 1 the technique is introduced and the basic theory and principles presented focusing on focusing atomic transitions and how the measurements are derived, followed by a broad view of the instrumentation. Part 2 covers safety then the ICP-OES components (firstly the components of the sample introduction system and plasma generation, then those of the optical system) their function, construction and action.
The second course will address operating procedure and optimization, calibration, sample preparation, matrix effects, maintenance and troubleshooting and give some good practice tips.
